Traditional Turkish Night

Our traditional Turkish Night will be this Sunday, March 2 from 4pm to 8pm at
Talley Student Center Ball Room. As you all know, this night is designed to
bring the Turkish Community together while we share our culture with others. As
usual, there will be Turkish music along with very tasty Turkish food plus other
surprising events throughout the night. Everyone of you, your family and friends
are welcomed. We take great pleasure hosting such event as TSA, and look forward
to see you all at Turkish Night.

The event tickets are now available at NCSU Ticket Central located at the 2nd
floor of Talley Student Center; will be available at the door during the
scheduled time of the event. You can also call 515-1100 to reserve your ticket.

Kurban Bayrami Celebration at Mediterranean Grill & Pie, Cary

We wish you a wonderful upcoming Kurban Bayrami...

Traditionally, we have tried to hold our community gatherings for Bayrams on weekends, but this year we will experiment with a new format and venue by observing Kurban Bayrami on Tuesday, February 11th, on the first day of the Bayram.

We have made arrangements with Turan Usta to serve a Turkish Bayram meal between 6:00pm and 9:00pm on February 11, Tuesday evening, at Mediterranean Grill & Pie of Cary. It will be a very informal gathering and you can drop in any time between these hours to enjoy the Bayram menu and to spend some time with fellow community members.


The Bayram menu is priced at $7.00 for community members and includes:

Bayram Kuzu Kavurmasi (roasted lamb)
Pilaf
Coban Salad
Baklava
Drink(coke/tea/ayran)

Please plan to stop by on your way home or bring the family and spend a few minutes with friends for "Bayramlasmak."

December 15, 2002:

Annual Backgammon Tournament at Mediterranean Grill & Pie, Cary

Backgammon TournamentATA-NC's first annual Fund Raiser Backgammon Tournament, open to all members, community friends and area students, was held from November 15th through December 15th, 2002. All proceeds from this tournament benefit the Bridge to the US Fund. Our Community coordinator for this event was Tugrul Sanli (tugrulsanli@yahoo.com)

In the elimination round of the tournament, participants were divided into eight groups. Players in each individual group competed with one another. First and second place holders from each group advanced to the finals as follows: Murat Kristal, Tugrul Sanli, Onur Karayal, Can Kuterdem, Gul Ege, Cemal Unal, Ferit Gazimihal, Ezat Sanii, Tulu Cankurtaran, Altug Sipal, Sedef Uncu, Kaan Uzun, Fatih Gunduz, Kagan Sanli, Asli Begenir and Zahit Sahin.

Final GameThese qualifying 16 players competed via single elimination for the Tournament Championship that took take place on Sunday afternoon December 15th at Mediterranean Grill & Pie in Cary. Pictured here, Tugrul Sanli and Ezat Sanii are playing the Final game of the tournament.

Tournament winner was Ezat and Tugrul placed second. Ezat has a collection of different Backgammon boards; one from Turkey, two from Persia and one from Russia. Ezat Sanii and Gul Ege live in Cary and have three children. Ezat has donated his $100 winnings back to ATA-NC for the Bridge to the US Fund. He will also donate another $100 for a total of $200 for use by the Fund if we can match his donations with other community members. Seker Bayrami Celebration at Glen Eden Community Center, Raleigh

In the traditions of Bayrams, Triangle area members and friends came together on Sunday afternoon, December 8th from as far away places as Greensboro, Mebane, Fayetteville, Wilson and Virginia to celebrate, eat and share good times as a community.

Catered Bayram meal menu included Turkish favorites such as Sucuklu Kurufasulye, Pilav, Tursu, Lahmacun.

Many thanks to "Inleyen Saz" Hasan Koc, Nedret Karan and all the Turkish Koro members and the Turkish School children for their wonderful performance. As usual, Oktay Atabay brought his award winning Tursu and he was also the honorary judge for our Desert Bake-Off Contest. The winner of the Basket of Turkish Goods from Cyber Trading was Gulsen Thurmon with her "Ev Baklavasi" entry. Deniz Ender's cake was a close runner up.

Hasan & Emine Koc received a book of North Carolina as their going away present. We wish them our best in their new home in Pennsylvania. We will miss them dearly. Buket Aydemir, Nur Onvural and Can Guralp were also recognized by ATA-NC for their dedication, ongoing involvement and community minded initiatives.
